How YOU Can Help!

"I can't adopt a dog right now, but I want to help!"

We realize there are many people out there that
can't adopt a dog, or another dog :) but still want to
help NBCR rescue dogs. There are many ways you
can help support NBCR rescued border collies.
Listed below are the many ways you can help. We
appreciate any assistance, as it insures we can
continue to rescue and find loving homes for these
great dogs.

Fostering
If you are not interested in adopting another dog,
but have room in your home and heart for another
canine pal, fostering is a great option. Our rescue
dogs are fostered IN home situations (not at
boarding facilities). This does limit the number of
dogs we can take in at any given time, however, it
also insures that the dogs learn house manners,
are part of a family and get the individual attention
that many of them greatly need. By fostering, you
enable NBCR to bring another dog into rescue.

We have a saying:
When you adopt, you save one life; if you foster you can save many.

Even if you foster just once, you are saving a dog and helping that dog find it's forever home! NBCR foster homes are provided with everything they need to care for their foster dog:
-- all veterinary care is taken care of and paid for by NBCR
-- you are provided with food and treats for your foster dog
-- all foster homes are provided with a crate if needed
-- NBCR volunteers are always there to answer any questions or help with
         any issues that may arise

Basically all you need to do is love your foster dog! Some obedience training and basic life skills (socialization, etc.) also help your Foster find a home more quickly.

Volunteering Your Time
NBCR is run by a small group of volunteers, all of whom help in BIG ways... we foster, train, socialize, transport, visit shelters, provide veterinary care, educate the public on responsible dog ownership and the characteristics and needs of Border Collies, take pictures to keep website updated, make phone calls, do home visits, etc. Volunteers also help walk dogs, educate the public on border collies, walk in parades and attend other events to promote the foster dogs. We are also in need of volunteers for foster and transports. Transporting means moving a dog or dogs from one place to another. Many times the dog is being transported from a shelter to come to NBCR. NBCR typically transports rescued dogs in and around Nebraska. We have also helped with transports from other states, such as Texas, Ohio, and Tennessee.

Donations
Monetary donations are always welcome. While we do ask for an adoption fee, we do not expect to recover these expenses completely. In fact, by the time the dogs are ready for placement, we anticipate that the required adoption fee may, if we are lucky, reimburse approximately 1/4 to 1/3 of their veterinary bills. Very few dogs come into rescue needing no veterinary treatment and some dogs come into rescue needing a great deal of medical attention.
All dogs coming into rescue receive a veterinary exam, heartworm test, full spectrum of vaccinations, are put on heartworm and flea/tick preventative, and any injuries or illnesses are treated (heartworm positive, mange, ringworm, old injuries, etc.).

NBCR also excepts donations of other items. Here are some of the things we use on a regular basis and are in need of:

      >> Dry dog food - our largest need!
      >> Dog treats
      >> Large and XL Kongs. Other "tough" chew toys
      >> Nylabone (Durable) Chews - size: wolf, giant, souper
& Galileo Chews. Other "tough" chews.
      >> Toys
      >> Collars & leashes. For collars we use martingale-style collars for many of
the rescue dogs. These collars prevent the rescue dogs from slipping or
           backing-out of the collar.
(for example: Premier Pet's Martingale collars)
      >> Wire & plastic crates ('used' is great as long as they are in working order)
      >> Blankets & beds
      >> Frontline & Interceptor (we also go through a great deal of this!)
for Frontline: 23-45lbs or 45-88lbs (we use the 23-45lbs the most)
             for Interceptor: 26-50lbs
      >> Sentinel (another heartworm preventative) 26-50lbs
      >> Rubber Stall Mats/Matting

Other donations are always welcome.
